Grant Park is the name of both one of Atlanta’s most attractive neighborhoods and the historic city park which serves as its centerpiece. Grand Victorian mansions overlook the park while renovated Queen Anne houses, Victorians, and Craftsman bungalows line the streets surrounding it. While Grant Park is undoubtedly one of Atlanta’s most historically significant neighborhoods, it is also a fun modern community that has experienced significant revitalization in recent decades. Along with iconic historic properties, housing options within Grant Park include numerous condominiums and The Village gated townhome community. Grant Park is located a short distance southeast of Downtown Atlanta and within easy reach of all of the city’s other intown neighborhoods.

Dining, Entertainment & Shopping

This charming neighborhood is dotted with great places to eat and drink. Six Feet Under is a popular seafood restaurant with a rooftop bar providing great views across the city. Ria’s Bluebird is a laid-back neighborhood diner offering a delicious all-day brunch menu. Grant Park Coffee House is a cozy spot serving delicious coffee, pastries, sandwiches, ice creams, and desserts. 

The Beacon is a 9-acre walkable area of shops and restaurants repurposed from six former industrial warehouses. Buteco is one of The Beacon’s highlights, serving Brazilian-style street food, coffee, and cocktails in a vibrant environment with regular live music performances. Other businesses at The Beacon include organic grocery store Third Street Goods, unique fashion boutiques, and stylish drinking spots such as The Bailey Wine Cellar and Elsewhere Brewing.

Things to Do

Spanning more than 130 acres, Grant Park is the oldest park in Atlanta and the city’s fourth-largest. Miles of walking and jogging trails wind through the tree-covered park and its various attractions bring in over one million annual visitors. Zoo Atlanta at Grant Park is one of just four zoos in the United States housing giant pandas. Other species include elephants, lions, giraffes, gorillas, lemurs, leopards, orangutans, more than a dozen bird species, and more than 100 varieties of reptiles. Zoo Atlanta opened in 1889 and continues to make frequent updates to its facilities, adding The World of Reptiles in 2015 and a renovated African Savanna area in 2019. Grant Park Farmers’ Market runs each Sunday between April and December with scores of vendors offering fresh local produce and gourmet food. 

Summer Shade Festival takes place at Grant Park each year on the last weekend in August and features live music, food vendors, a kids’ zone, and an artists’ market showcasing the work of more than 200 arts-and-crafts makers. Other annual events include a Halloween Lantern Parade. Facilities at smaller parks within the area include a children’s playground at Ormond-Grant Park and sports courts and fields at 7-acre Phoenix II. Located at the northern end of the Grant Park neighborhood is Oakland Cemetery, an enormous Victorian-style garden cemetery where many prominent Atlanta figures have been laid to rest. Established in 1850, the cemetery offers a fascinating insight into Atlanta’s past.
