Welcome to Old Fourth Ward

Diverse revitalized area with many attractions and amenities

Old Fourth Ward is a revitalized former industrial area adjacent to Atlanta’s Downtown district to the west and Midtown to the north, with the BeltLine Eastside Trail running along its eastern edge. Often referred to as O4W for short, Old Fourth Ward is a vibrant area that has seen a lot of recent development. The northeast corner of O4W has particularly benefited from this regeneration, as former industrial sites have been reinvigorated as Ponce City Market and Historic Fourth Ward Park.

This diverse district has a wide range of housing options. The southeastern area of O4W is mostly comprised of single-family housing, with a mix of renovated turn-of-the-century properties and contemporary homes. Many sleek modern townhomes and condominiums can be found in the neighborhood’s north, along with stylish industrial loft conversions.

People & Lifestyle

Old Fourth Ward is a diverse district with much to offer. From the restaurants and nightlife along Edgewood Avenue to the outdoor recreation spots of Historic Fourth Ward Park and the BeltLine, there is plenty to see and explore here. O4W is also the historic home of Martin Luther King, Jr., and local sites commemorating his life and legacy are some of Atlanta’s biggest tourist attractions.

Dining, Entertainment & Shopping

Edgewood Avenue to Old Fourth Ward’s south is a dynamic stretch lined with trendy bars and restaurants. Ammazza captures the spirit of the new O4W, serving delicious Neapolitan pizza, pasta, and antipasti in a stylish warehouse conversion with an in-house DJ. Staplehouse is a reservations-only restaurant with a seasonal tasting menu that passes on all its profits to the Giving Kitchen charity. StudioPlex Alley is a dining retail hub located at the spot where Edgewood Avenue meets the BeltLine Eastside Trail.

SPX Alley’s unique businesses include fitness studios Madabolic and Dancing Dogs Yoga, handcrafted ice cream parlor Butter & Cream, and chic nightlife spots Pour Taproom and The James Room. Nina & Rafi at SPX Alley is a rustic Italian spot with great food and drinks, including a large selection of amaro liqueurs. Located near the BeltLine and Historic Fourth Ward Park in O4W’s northeast corner, Ponce City Market is a mixed-used development housed within a historic Sears factory. Ponce City Market’s gourmet Food Hall offers a wide range of creative food and drinks from award-winning chefs and restaurateurs.

Things to Do

Historic Fourth Ward Park is one of the most scenic spots along the BeltLine Eastside Trail. The park covers 17 acres with a 2-acre lake running through its center. Kids love the play equipment at the park and the splash pad that operates from May to October. Many events and festivals take place at Historic Fourth Ward Park throughout the year, with highlights including live music and food trucks at September’s Fall Fest and the two-day Old Fourth Ward Park Arts Festival in October. Bike rental stations at the park allow you to hop onto the Atlanta BeltLine Eastside Trail and ride along three scenic miles between Midtown and Reynoldstown.

Krog Street Market is located on Edgewood Avenue on the opposite side of the trail to O4W. Similarly to Ponce City Market, Krog Street Market has transformed a disused warehouse into a must-visit foodie destination. Zagat, Departures, and Fodor’s Travels have all listed Krog Street among the best gourmet food halls in the United States.

Martin Luther King, Jr.’s childhood home is located on Auburn Avenue and many important sites from his life are located on the streets surrounding it. These together comprise the Martin Luther King Jr. National Historic Park, one of Atlanta’s top tourist attractions. Every year, millions of visitors head to O4W to view exhibits at the MLK Historic Park’s museums and see the church where King was baptized and served as pastor.
